Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has charged corps members deployed to the state to be apolitical while participating in the forthcoming general election in 2027.
The governor gave the charge on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of corps members in the 2026 Batch “C” Stream 2 held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.
Makinde said that the role of corps members in strengthening the democratic process could not be overemphasised.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mrs Wasilat Adegoke.
Makonde added that corps members’ participation has helped provide the credible human resources required for the conduct of elections across the country.
“As we are approaching yet another electioneering period, I urge you to bring to bear your patriotism and commitment by being apolitical.
“Adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act as you participate in the conduct of the elections.
“You are expected to uphold the trust and resist any temptation to compromise the integrity of the exercise. Remember, the nation looks up to you for credible elections,” he said.
The governor reiterated that the corps members were not merely beneficiaries of a national programme, but important partners in Nigeria’s development.
He particularly charged them to prioritise the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme deliberately designed to equip them beyond their academic degrees.
He promised to make the state safe and create an enabling environment for young people to function.
Also, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Kayode Peters, urged corps members to embrace the opportunity to serve with an open mind and a positive disposition.
He also encouraged the corps members to participate actively in all the NYSC programmes during the service year.
“The NYSC experience is much more than the fulfilment of a mandatory national assignment. It is an opportunity to encounter people from different backgrounds, cultures and communities.
“Build meaningful relationships and networks; discover and develop your abilities; and, most importantly, make a positive difference in the communities where you will be posted,” he said.
A corps member, Miss Rasidat Alamu, urged government to ensure maximum security of corps members deployed for the election.
Also, Timothy Adegoke charged his fellow corps members not to engage in activities that could bring shame to the NYSC and their families while participating in the election.
NAN reports that the Chief Justice of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Olusoji Oladejo, administered the Oath of Allegiance on a total of 4,069 corps members, comprising 1,488 males and 2,581 females.
