Mr Sanusi Bature, a commissioner-nominee in Kano State, has pledged to revitalise state-owned media houses to meet global standard.
Bature made this known while answering questions when he appeared before the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation on Tuesday in Kano.
He assured that the government would ensure effective digital transformation of Kano Radio, Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) and Triumph Publishing Company to become full-fledged multimedia platforms.
The commissioner-nominee also assured that the government would extend support to private media houses in the state.
Bature also advocated for a social media regulation Bill to sanitise content on social media in the state.
“We will require the intervention of the house for one important bill, social media regulation.
“It is going to be in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
“Kano State House of Assembly, in collaboration with the two ministries, with the permission of the governor, can provide legislation where we can regulate content of social media in Kano State,” he said.
The commissioner-nominee decried the rising cases of bastardisation of the ethics of journalism through social media, noting that the government would sensitise the system.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bature is the Director-General (Media and Publicity) to Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf.
