Ibadan, Nov. 2, 2026 (NAN) Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has promised not to disappoint pensioners and workers if elected.
Adekanmbi made the promise on Monday during an interactive session organised by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the session was held at the Pensioners House in Ibadan.
The APM governorship candidate, who affirmed that Gov. Seyi Makinde had done his best for pensioners, promised to build on or even surpass his achievements.
He promised to prioritise salaries, gratuities and other pension entitlements.
“I have a listening ear and I will not tell you what I will not do.
“I will continue to pay your entitlements as and when due; you will not suffer,” he said.
He further promised accelerated development in the state, adding that he had toured almost all the state’s 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
According to him, he understands the challenges confronting the people of the state.
Adekanmbi, who also addressed farmers’ challenges, promised to do more on irrigation, mechanisation, extension, value-chain, and the release of large farm inputs to enhance farmers’ income.
“I want to position the state for competitiveness, for wealth creation in order for Oyo State to attain its space in the comity of states,” he said.
Earlier, the Oyo State NUP Secretary, Dr Olusegun Abatan, said it was NUP tradition to invite governorship candidates for interactive sessions to know their plans for pensioners.
Abatan said pensioners might have retired but were not tired, and were well organised to determine who becomes governor.
He said pensioners in the state would not vote for any governorship candidate who refused to honour their invitation for an interactive session.
According to him, a refusal implies the candidate lacks plans for pensioners if elected.
The secretary, who described the union as non-political, non-religious and non-ethnic, said they would vote for personalities based on positive antecedents to members, and not party affiliation.
“I make bold to state that we have used our population of about 50,000 and our dependants to install and send past administrations packing,” he said.
The Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Kayode Martins, urged Adekanmbi not to neglect pensioners when addressing workers’ challenges, if elected.
