The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo has endorsed Gov. Monday Okpebholo for a second term, citing his development achievements and commitment to the state’s growth.

The state APC Chairman, Mr Jarrett Tenebe, announced the endorsement during the grand finale of the APC grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections on Friday in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.

Tenebe said the party’s State Working Committee had reviewed the governor’s performance since assuming office and expressed satisfaction with the development projects being executed across the state’s three senatorial districts.

He said the party had embarked on a tour of Edo South, Edo North and Edo Central to assess the projects and developments recorded under the administration.

According to him, the pace of development and the support the governor enjoyed had strengthened the party’s confidence in his leadership.

“We have been going around the three senatorial districts, starting from Edo South, Edo North and now rounding off in Edo Central, to see the development taking place.

“Considering the development going on and the massive support the governor enjoys, I do not think we can afford to wait before taking this decision,” he said.

Tenebe subsequently urged members of the State Working Committee present at the gathering to endorse the governor for a second term.

He said the committee’s decision reflected its confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership and the administration’s achievements.

The APC chairman also reiterated the party’s commitment to mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that Edo would contribute significantly to the party’s electoral target of 2.5 million votes for the President.

Responding, Okpebholo thanked Tenebe and members of the party’s State Working Committee for the endorsement and their support for his administration.

The governor expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, saying he valued the party’s solidarity and commitment to his leadership.

He, however, urged party members to sustain their support and remain committed to the party’s political objectives.

Okpebholo also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a leader whose political vision and commitment deserved the support of party members.

The governor’s endorsement came amid APC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its grassroots mobilisation and consolidate support for its leadership in Edo and at the national level.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of APC in Edo, Mr Sylvester Aigboboh, highlighted various projects the governor had embarked on and executed within the space of one year and 11 months.

The projects, he said, included road infrastructure, employment of teachers, and upgrades to healthcare facilities, among others.
