The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Benjamin Kalu, has reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, particularly, Internally Displaced Persons, through strengthened legal frameworks and sustained humanitarian support.

Kalu spike while receiving a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross, who commended him for sponsoring the Kampala Bill aimed at protecting Internally Displaced Persons.

The delegation, led by Head of Delegation in Nigeria, Doris El Doueihy, praised the Deputy Speaker for his commitment to humanitarian causes, describing him as a leader who embraces challenges.

She also expressed the organisation’s readiness to partner with him on future humanitarian initiatives, noting that Nigeria is making meaningful efforts to address the plight of displaced persons.

He said Nigeria recognises and appreciates the organisation’s efforts in supporting vulnerable populations.

Kalu explained that his passion for humanitarian service dates back to his early years, when he aspired to become a lawyer to defend the vulnerable.
