President Bola Tinubu has prayed for lasting peace, national unity and an end to insecurity in Nigeria after performing the Umrah pilgrimage in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu performed the Islamic spiritual exercise early Friday at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, where he circled the Ka’abah and offered prayers for the country.
Speaking with journalists after completing the rites, the President said the pilgrimage was significant because of his commitment to Nigeria, its people and the will of Allah.
“I believe this Umrah is very significant for the love of our people, commitment to the job and our country, Nigeria; commitment to the will of Allah that His words must prevail,” he said.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to perform the pilgrimage, saying he had prayed for Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and happiness.
“We have just prayed for our nation, for everyone to live in peace and harmony, happiness and faith in God Almighty,” he said.
In a statement issued on Friday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President also sought divine guidance for Nigeria’s leaders and stronger bonds of brotherhood among citizens.
Tinubu prayed for the country to overcome insecurity and other challenges, while expressing hope for sustained economic prosperity, social development and a more secure future.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous country where Nigerians, irrespective of their religious beliefs or backgrounds, could live in safety and dignity.
The President departed Abuja for Saudi Arabia on Thursday and is expected to return to Nigeria next week.
