The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its nationwide organisational structure and membership strength will give it an advantage in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed that the APC had more than 261,000 executive committee members nationwide, alongside more governors, ministers, local government chairmen and councillors than other political parties.
He spoke on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the House of Representatives Aspirants Forum for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, where he urged members to work towards securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Yilwatda said the party was better positioned than its rivals to win the elections, citing its numerical strength, organisational capacity and record in government.
“In terms of organisational structure, our party is the most organised. In terms of numbers, we have the highest number of executive committee members compared with any political party,” he said.
He also described Tinubu as the most credible presidential candidate ahead of the election, urging party members, including those who recently defected from opposition parties, to support his second-term ambition.
“No political party, as it stands today, has a more credible candidate than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
The APC chairman said the party remained committed to inclusiveness, adding that it provided opportunities for members regardless of their age, gender, educational background, religion, ethnic group or disability.
He, however, stressed that members must work to achieve their political ambitions, noting that the party had limited opportunities and that individuals needed to play their roles.
Yilwatda also defended the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and rail connections, saying they would strengthen Nigeria’s economic position in West and Central Africa.
He said the government was expanding the coastal road to tap into the country’s maritime economy while developing rail links and inland port facilities to improve trade.
On education, the APC chairman defended the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, highlighting the ₦20,000 monthly upkeep allowance available to beneficiaries.
He cited the example of a female beneficiary who reportedly invested part of her allowance in a second-hand refrigerator to start an iced-fish business, arguing that the initiative could help students develop entrepreneurial skills and become financially independent.
Yilwatda urged the aspirants to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, expressing confidence that the APC’s numerical advantage and organisational reach would translate into electoral victory in 2027.
