The Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Betta Edu, has pledged sustained grassroots engagement across Nigeria to promote greater representation of women in elective and appointive positions.

Edu spoke after President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to sponsoring six executive bills aimed at improving women’s participation in governance.

Tinubu gave the assurance during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he urged women leaders to intensify advocacy for the proposed legislation.

“You women are the greatest mobilisers and foot soldiers of our democracy,” the President said.

He expressed confidence that the bills would yield results if women leaders actively promoted them.

“Go and work for them, and I assure you that they will come to fruition,” he added.

The proposed bills are intended to increase women’s representation in the National Assembly and at subnational levels, according to the statement.

Speaking in an interview after the President’s remarks, Edu welcomed the commitment, describing the proposed legislation as an important step towards strengthening women’s participation in political leadership.

She pledged to engage women across communities and strengthen grassroots structures to encourage greater female involvement in the political process.

Edu said the mobilisation effort would continue under the supervision of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

She also expressed confidence that women would respond to the President’s assurances through sustained political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
