Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the death of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as a loss to the Niger Delta and Nigeria, recalling his contributions to healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development.

Uduaghan, who governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, died at the age of 71, three days before his 72nd birthday.

Akpabio expressed his condolences in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.

The Senate President said he received the news with shock, noting that he and Uduaghan served as governors of neighbouring South-South states during part of the same period.

He described the late politician as a medical doctor and statesman who devoted his life to public service.

Akpabio said Uduaghan’s administration recorded progress in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery and human capital development in Delta State.

He also described the former governor as a bridge-builder whose contributions extended beyond Delta to the wider Niger Delta region.

The Senate President extended condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children and other family members, as well as the Delta State Government, the Itsekiri nation and the people of the Niger Delta.

He offered prayers for the repose of the former governor’s soul and strength for his family and the people of Delta State to bear the loss.
