The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River says it has begun the search for a capable person to replace its former chairman, Mr Venatius Ikem who recently resigned from office.

The Secretary, Mr Joe Bisong, made the disclosure in a statement to newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday.

Bisong said that the State Executive Committee of the party would meet in the next few days to deliberate on Ikem’s resignation.

He further said that the party would rely on the provisions of Article 46(6) of the PDP constitution to address the development and ensure a smooth leadership transition.

He urged party stakeholders to remain calm, maintain peace, and uphold the values of discipline, maturity, loyalty, and trust.

The secretary assured members that Ikem’s resignation would not derail the party’s fortunes, stability, or progress in Cross River.

Bisong said that PDP remained focused, united, and committed to strengthening its structures across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP official urged party members to demonstrate restraint and maintain unity while the party addressed the development.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to its mission and expressed confidence in its ability to navigate the situation.

It would be recalled that Ikem resigned as PDP chairman in Cross River citing irreconcilable differences, internal divisions, and a lack of clear direction as reasons.
