Oyo moves against herdsmen

As part of efforts to curtail the worrisome clashes between local farmers and herdsmen, the Oyo state government has forwarded a bill to the State House of Assembly, seeking to regulate the movement of herdsmen in the state.


Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on community relations, Alhaji Abimbola Siyanbade while speaking at a stakeholders' meeting on the Mutual relationship between farmers and herdsmen, stated that the present administration in the state would continue to ensure that peace reigns in the state.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Oyewole Oyewumi said the state government is in support of the creation of ranches across the state as this will continue to ensure a harmonious relationship between members of the two groups.

The Commissioner of police in the state, Abiodun Odude, who was represented by his deputy, Attairu Isah sued for peace among farmers and herdsmen in the state stressing that the police will continue to perform its mediation role where necessary.

It was also resolved that the stakeholders meeting will be held periodically in the state.
