Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated an eight-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers from schools in Esinele and Yawata communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said the commission is expected to establish the facts surrounding the incident, identify institutional and operational lapses, and recommend measures to strengthen the security of schools and communities against future attacks.

Governor Makinde described the abduction as an assault on the affected communities and on the right of every Nigerian child to access education in a safe and secure environment.

He explained that setting up the commission was not meant to diminish the efforts of security agencies but to ensure that every lesson from the unfortunate incident is carefully examined to improve the state's security architecture.

Governor Makinde urged members of the commission, chaired by retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Prof. Mojeed Owoade, to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, impartiality and professionalism, guided only by the law, evidence and public interest.

Chairman of the commission, retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Professor Mojeed Owoade, assured Nigerians that the panel would uncover the truth without fear or favour.
