Governor Wike requests payment of 13% derivation

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that oil-producing states should be paid their 13 percent derivation out of the one billion naira withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government to fight insurgency.

Speaking at the government house in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital when he received a leadership award, Governor Wike noted that it is mandatory for the federal government to follow constitutional procedure in the matter.

The Governor said he has been officially approached to lobby members of the State House of Assembly to approve the resolution mandating the withdrawal of the said fund.

Governor Wike also informed the State lawmakers of the refusal of the All Progressives Congress, (APC)-led Federal Government to release budget support fund to the state government, when other states have received theirs.

Earlier, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani described Governor Wike as a leader with outstanding developmental qualities.

Ibani said imprints of the governor are found in all the local government areas of the state.

The speaker was accompanied by leadership and members of the House to make the presentation to Governor Wike.
