Covid-19: Ganduje Slashes Salaries In Kano

The governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje has said he will only pay half salary of all political appointees in the state beginning from the month of May 2020.

Ganduje made this known through a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Abba Anwar and made available to Galaxy TV news Sunday evening.

He blamed the COVID-19 pandemic which led to the lockdown in the state resulting in the closing down of factories and markets that do generate internal revenue for the state.

Ganduje also blamed the shortfall of revenue from the Federal government as a result of the downturn in the oil sector.

Galaxy TV correspondent King Richard reports that Kano state has been under lockdown for the past one month to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The statement identified those that would receive a half salary to include; the Governor and his Deputy, all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants among others.

At the local government level, those affected are Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, Elected Councilors, Supervisory Councilors, Advisers and Secretaries of Local Governments.
