Census: NPC Demarcates 260 LGAs

A total number of 260 Local Government Areas have been successfully demarcated across the 36 States by the National Population Census.

The Hon. Federal Commissioner, National Population Census, Oyo State, Dr Eyitayo Oyetunji who made the disclosure at a stakeholders workshop and flag-off of enumeration area demarcation phase 11 in Ibadan noted that any successful census depends on credible demarcation exercise.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Dr. Oyetunji while speaking on the essence of the exercise, said aside from providing invaluable information for security surveillance as well as crime detection, prevention and facts regarding household distribution obtainable from the enumeration area demarcation could be used to ameliorate the adverse effects of ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Adejoke Eyitayo who represented the state government at the event lauded the initiative of the National Population Commission calling on the residents to support the initiative.

Dr. Oyetunji added that the most important aspect of the exercise is that it remains a preparatory step towards conducting a credible census adding that this will help to determine the resources needed for the census.

The event was attended by officials of the Oyo state government, traditional rulers, community leaders among others.
