Bayelsa Loses 1 Billion Naira Monthly - Governor Diri
Bayelsa State Government has revealed that the state loses one billion Naira monthly as a result of disputed boundaries with its neighbouring Rivers state.
Governor Douye Diri made the revelation during the twenty-eight state’s executive council meeting at the Exco Chambers, Government house where he inaugurated a boundary committee to address boundary disputes with its sister states.
Lamenting bitterly on the negative effects of boundary disputes and litigation on the state’s allocation, the governor called on its counterparts from sister states to find other means to settle boundary disputes amicably rather than court sanctions.
Addressing the inaugurated Boundary Committee members, governor Diri charged them to be diplomatic and not cede any territory belonging to Bayelsa to another state.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee, Senator Lawrence Ewrudjakpo promised that the committee will deploy everything to achieve a positive result with the support of the state.
