Nigerian troops have recorded a series of operational successes across different theatres, including the rescue of 10 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Imo State, the neutralisation of 16 terrorists in Adamawa State, and the recovery of several weapons.
According to an operational report by the Nigerian Army, troops of Operation UDO KA rescued the 10 NYSC members who were abducted after suspected kidnappers attacked two commercial buses along the Onitsha–Owerri Road in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on October 1.
The Army said personnel of the 34 Artillery Brigade, working with the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services, responded to the incident and launched a coordinated operation to track the kidnappers and rescue the remaining victims. A separate police account confirmed that the two buses were recovered and that 10 victims were rescued at the scene.
In Adamawa State, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on troops of 226 Battalion in Garkida, Gombi LGA, and 232 Battalion in Garaha, Hong LGA, at about 1 a.m. The troops successfully repelled the attacks, forcing the terrorists to flee towards Garkida on motorcycles.
The Army's Spartan element subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists and conducted strikes which, according to the military report, neutralised 16 terrorists. Troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and cartridges.
Elsewhere, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE responded to a suspected terrorist attack on Gwamagira settlement in Karim Lamido LGA of Taraba State. The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, were forced to retreat, abandoning rustled cattle. The troops recovered the cattle and returned them to their owners. However, the attack reportedly resulted in one civilian being killed and three others abducted, with rescue operations continuing.
In Yobe State, troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, arrested a suspected ISWAP operative at Babbangida in Tarmuwa LGA. The suspect, arrested on September 29, reportedly claimed to be an Islamic cleric operating in the Sahara area of Niger Republic. The Army said preliminary investigations indicated that he had travelled by truck from the Zarmadu-Sahara area of Niger Republic into Nigeria before proceeding to Borno. Security forces reportedly recovered a mobile phone, prayer mat, blanket, jacket, slate, detergent, and ₦396,200 from him.
Four other suspected terrorists were also arrested by troops of Sector 4, working with Rangers and Hybrid Forces, during a fighting patrol in parts of Hong LGA, Adamawa State.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA engaged terrorists along the Kwanar Isa–Shinkafi Road in Isa LGA of Sokoto State, forcing them to withdraw before troops established a stronger patrol presence in the area.
In summary: the military report highlights simultaneous operations across Imo, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Sokoto, resulting in the rescue of NYSC members, arrests of suspected terrorists, recovery of weapons and the disruption of attacks, while operations continue in areas where victims remain abducted.
