The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, in Kaduna, slammed the National Assembly over double standard on electronic transmission of election results in the amendment of the Electoral Act.

Adebayo said the federal legislators want to deny Nigerians the choice to choose their preferred candidate in the upcoming elections with the new electoral laws.

Adebayo, in a media interaction in Kaduna, berated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for its inconsistency in announcement of the timetable for the 2027 general elections.

Adebayo urged Nigerians to vote out members of the National Assembly, accusing the lawmakers of passing electoral laws targeted at denying the electorates access to vote their preferred candidate. The SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Abubakar, assured Nigerians on the strength of the SDP to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. He urged the federal government to strengthen institutions rather than making duplicates.

He recalled that the SDP once played a historic role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, particularly, during the June 12, 1993, Nigerian presidential election won by the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
