The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has recorded an 88.9 per cent decrease in road crash deaths between July and September 2026.

The Sector Commander, Mr Samson Kaura, said this on Wednesday while reviewing the corps' operations for the third quarter, 2026.

Kaura said that the corps recorded four deaths between July and September, down from 36 deaths in 57 crashes recorded in the second quarter, representing a significant decrease of about 88.9 per cent.

He said the number of road crashes dropped slightly from 57 to 44 during the period under review.

Comparing deaths in Q3, 2026 with the same period in 2025, Kaura said there was a 73 per cent decrease.

He attributed the reduction in crashes to sustained awareness campaigns, partnerships with relevant stakeholders, and the deployment of effective emergency response services.

“In the third quarter of 2026, we recorded 44 road crashes involving 41 vehicles, including 27 bicycles, motorcycles and tricycles.

“A total of 210 persons were involved, four deaths, 145 injuries and 61 others were unhurt”.

Kaura said that the suspected causes of crashes were speeding, overtaking, and overloading.

He urged stakeholders to sustain road safety campaigns in their various communities towards ensuring compliance to safety standards.

The commander advised drivers to avoid speeding, adding that it was one of the major causes of road traffic crashes.

“Speed needs to be controlled before it controls us; kill the speed before it kills us. Speed thrills, but it kills.

“Avoid speed and maintain the speed limit as prescribed by the law,” he said.

Kaura said the corps would step up sensitisation activities in the fourth quarter to encourage compliance with traffic rules, promote road safety, and reduce crashes.
