No fewer than 13 people were killed in separate attacks across three local government areas of Plateau State on Sunday night, with nine passengers among those killed when gunmen opened fire on a vehicle travelling to Jos.
The attacks occurred in Dungus community in Jos South, Vodni in Mangu and Tahoos in Riyom, leaving several others injured.
In Dungus, suspected terrorists attacked a vehicle carrying passengers to Jos at about 9.40 pm, killing nine people.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack, saying some of the passengers who sustained gunshot wounds were taken to hospital, where some later died.
"The victims were all passengers travelling to Jos when the terrorists opened fire on the vehicle," Tengwong said.
He added that a member of Operation Rainbow, a local security outfit, was among those killed.
"It is a very sad development and we lament the loss of lives," he said.
A resident, Musa Dauda, said some of the injured passengers also died while receiving treatment, while others remained in hospital.
In Mangu Local Government Area, suspected terrorists attacked Vodni in Pushit District, killing two people and injuring four others.
The injured victims were receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu town.
Two other people were reportedly killed in a separate attack at Tahoos in Riyom Local Government Area around the same period.
The latest attacks have renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Plateau, with the incidents occurring across three local government areas on the same night.
Efforts to obtain further details from security operatives were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
