The Plateau State Government has begun the reconstruction of the 41-kilometre Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road, 14 years after the project was initially awarded.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who flagged off the reconstruction, said the road required a comprehensive upgrade because of increased traffic and deterioration after it was originally designed as a surface-dressed road.

The project was awarded in December 2012 to Eighteen Engineering International Construction Company.

Mutfwang said although substantial work was completed on the road, changing traffic demands and its deteriorating condition made a major upgrade necessary to meet modern standards and ensure durability.

The governor said the reconstructed road would reduce travel time, improve road safety and strengthen access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services for communities along the corridor.

He said the project would also support farmers by improving access to markets and help businesses reduce transportation costs.

“Today we are not merely flagging off a road project; we are laying another foundation for progress, prosperity, and sustainable development in Plateau State,” Mutfwang said.

The governor said the road would complement other strategic projects being executed by the administration, including the Foron–Bakin Kogi–Kadunu–Gindiri Road, to improve connectivity across the state.

He urged host communities to protect the project and called on the contractors, consultants and supervising ministry to adhere to approved specifications and quality standards.

Mutfwang also assured residents that the state government would maintain close supervision to ensure the successful delivery of the road.
