Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has paid tribute to his predecessor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, describing him as a detribalised leader whose contributions to the state’s development would endure.

Uduaghan died on Monday, 19 October 2026, aged 71, according to a statement issued by his family.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, Oborevwori sympathised with the late governor’s wife, Roli, his children, the Uduaghan family, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.

The governor recalled Uduaghan’s contributions to infrastructure development during his time in office, saying he worked for the progress of the state beyond ethnic considerations.

Oborevwori described his death as a significant loss to Delta State and Nigeria, adding that his years in public service had left a lasting mark.

Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before becoming governor in May 2007. He served two terms and left office in 2015.
