The National Judicial Council (NJC) has approved the retirement notifications of two Supreme Court justices, Ibrahim Mohammed Musa Saulawa and Uwani Musa Abba Aji, alongside four other judicial officers.

The approvals were among the decisions taken at the Council’s 112th meeting, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The Council did not disclose the effective retirement dates or further details about the circumstances of the justices’ departures.
Saulawa and Abba Aji are among the judicial officers whose retirement notifications were considered and approved as part of the NJC’s routine administrative decisions.

The meeting also considered judicial appointments, disciplinary matters and petitions involving serving judicial officers.

In a separate decision, the Council recommended 28 candidates for appointment to judicial positions across several states.

The nominees include 24 candidates for High Court positions in Kano, Ebonyi, Edo, Adamawa and Ogun states, as well as candidates for the Sharia and Customary Courts of Appeal in Plateau and Adamawa states.

The NJC directed the respective state governors to swear in the recommended candidates without delay.
