The Police Service Commission has dismissed three senior police officers and demoted 16 others over misconduct, as it intensifies efforts to enforce discipline and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
The commission also sanctioned 23 officers through severe and ordinary reprimands, while three others were exonerated following the consideration of disciplinary cases.
The decisions were reached at the PSC plenary meeting presided over by its Chairman, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu (retd.), at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The PSC further disclosed that some officers who had previously been suspended had been reinstated into the police force.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, the commission said the dismissals followed established cases of serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of police officers.
“The dismissal of the three senior officers followed established cases of serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of members of the Force,” the statement read.
Argungu reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to enforcing discipline, warning that corruption, human rights abuses and other forms of misconduct would not be tolerated.
The PSC chairman was quoted as reaffirming the commission’s “zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, meddling in land and civil matters, and other acts of misconduct in the Force”.
He also assured Nigerians that disciplinary cases brought before the commission would be handled promptly, with efforts directed towards their speedy resolution.
Argungu commended members of the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, led by retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, for their contributions to the review of disciplinary cases and appeals.
Other officials recognised for their contributions included retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu, retired Justice Christine Dabup, Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Director of the Police Discipline Department, Ferdinand U. Ekpe.
The commission said their commitment helped facilitate the consideration of cases at departmental, committee and plenary levels.
The latest sanctions form part of the PSC’s efforts to strengthen professionalism, accountability and discipline within the police force.
