The Nigerian Navy has arrested three suspected drug traffickers and recovered about 80,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil during separate operations in Delta State.
The operations were conducted by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency as part of efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal petroleum activities and drug trafficking in the Niger Delta.
The Navy said the first operation at Oteghele community led to the discovery of a large dug-out reservoir containing about 30,000 litres of crude oil.
A second operation at Obodo Omadino community resulted in the recovery of another 50,000 litres of crude oil.
In a related operation targeting suspected illicit drug activities in the Warri general area and its environs, NNS Delta personnel and the NDLEA arrested three suspects.
The operation also led to the seizure of 15 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, 0.5 grammes of cocaine and 0.5 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, among other illicit substances.
The Navy said the suspects and recovered items had been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.
It said the joint operations demonstrated the Navy’s capacity to tackle different forms of maritime and coastal insecurity, including crude oil theft, illegal petroleum activities and illicit drug trafficking.
The Navy warned that criminal activities within the NNS Delta operational area and the wider Niger Delta would be met with appropriate professional action.
