A multiple-vehicle accident involving seven vehicles occurred early Wednesday morning at Kara Bridge, inward OPIC, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said its LRT Tiger Squad stationed at C3 was dispatched to the scene at about 6:05 a.m. following a distress call and arrived within the projected response time.
According to the agency, the vehicles involved included a 40-foot container truck, a Toyota Hilux, an interstate bus, a Hyundai Odyssey, a Sienna, a Toyota Highlander and a Mitsubishi Hilux.
Preliminary findings indicated that the container truck developed a mechanical fault while in motion, causing the driver to lose control before it collided with the other vehicles.
LASEMA subsequently activated its incident management protocol and took charge of coordinating the emergency response.
The agency, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force, deployed traffic control measures to secure the area and prevent further incidents.
Private towing trucks were also engaged in the recovery operation, leading to the removal of all the affected vehicles from the carriageway to the roadside.
LASEMA said no death or injury was recorded in the accident.
Following the recovery operation, traffic movement on the bridge was restored, while LASTMA officials remained at the location to monitor the area and ensure uninterrupted flow.
The recovered vehicles were handed over to the police officer at the scene for documentation and further necessary action.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the emergency responders and other agencies involved in the operation, noting that the coordinated response helped prevent casualties and restore traffic within a short period.
He urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to ensure regular vehicle maintenance, comply with roadworthiness requirements and exercise caution when travelling on major highways.
LASEMA also advised members of the public to promptly report road traffic accidents and other emergencies through its toll-free emergency lines to enable timely intervention.
