Ahead of the governorship election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the signing of the peace accord will be held on September 12, 2024, in Benin City. It also said the Mock Accreditation exercise will take place on September 10 for the test-running of the BVAS deployment and uploading of results for the election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the announcement during an extraordinary meeting with political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. He said that the importance of signing the peace accord can not be overemphasized in ensuring peaceful and credible electoral processes.
He urged leaders of political parties and and INEC stakeholders to mobilise candidates to participate in the exercise.

While asking the political parties to comply with the Commission’s digital platform for nominating polling and collation agents, Mahmood called on all political parties to maintain decorum and civility during their campaigns, reiterating the Commission’s readiness to work closely with all stakeholders to deliver a credible election in Edo State.

National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, called on political parties to use the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States as opportunities to restore confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process and deepen democratic governance.
