Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has promised that a new Awujale of Ijebuland will emerge before May 29, 2027, while projecting fresh investments and job opportunities from oil exploration and a proposed deep-sea port in Ogun East.
Abiodun gave the assurances on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where he discussed the traditional ruler succession process and the economic prospects of the senatorial district.
He said his administration was committed to ensuring a peaceful and widely accepted process for selecting the next Awujale, urging residents to remain calm as the necessary procedures were concluded.
The governor described the Awujale institution as central to the cultural identity and unity of Ijebuland, adding that his government was giving the succession process the attention it deserved.
On economic development, Abiodun said oil exploration activities around Eba Island and the proposed Gateway Deep-Sea Port in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area could transform Ogun East by attracting investment and creating employment.
He said the port, alongside the proposed Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, would expand opportunities in shipping, logistics, manufacturing and maritime trade.
According to him, the projects could also strengthen local businesses, increase the district’s commercial importance and contribute to Ogun State’s economic growth.
Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and investment promotion, while calling for continued cooperation between the state and Federal Government to advance major projects.
President Bola Tinubu’s administration, he said, had supported critical infrastructure and development initiatives in the state.
Representatives of market men and women, hunters, members of the Council of Baales and Olorituns commended the governor for engaging grassroots groups and giving them an opportunity to raise issues affecting their communities.
Some participants also pledged to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
