The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has pledged direct advocacy for retired police officers, placing pension reforms and improved welfare for veterans and their families at the centre of the Force’s agenda.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, in a statement indicated that the decision underscored the commitment of the Nigeria Police leadership to address long-standing pension and gratuity challenges affecting retirees.
The IGP made the pledge during a meeting with a delegation of retired officers, where he acknowledged persistent welfare concerns and assured that efforts are underway to secure lasting solutions through administrative and policy reforms.
Disu outlined plans to personally present retirees’ petitions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to push for the signing of the pension bill, while also guaranteeing security for any peaceful demonstrations by retirees.
He also announced plans to work with relevant authorities to create employment opportunities for children of retired officers during future recruitment exercises, reaffirming that the welfare and dignity of both serving and retired personnel remain a priority.
