Ahead of the Ondo Gubernatorial elections set for Saturday, November 16, 2024, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has appointed DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi as the coordinating DIG for the elections.

He will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of police security measures to maintain order throughout the electoral process. Additionally, AIG Bennett Igweh and CP Tunji Disu have been designated as the AIG and CP in charge of election security, respectively.

As part of the security framework, a restriction on all vehicular movement, including roads and waterways, will be in place from 6 am to 6 pm on Election Day. In a statement released by the FPRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this restriction excludes essential services, such as ambulances, media personnel, fire services, and other accredited officials.

The IGP also announced that security aides and escorts assigned to VIPs are prohibited from accompanying them to polling stations and collation centers. Special accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
