Barely a week after the GalaxyTV news report on the devastating effects of erosion, which has displaced many residents of the Ogbogoro community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the state’s House of Assembly has called for urgent government intervention in the natural disaster.
The lawmakers’ intervention followed a motion moved by the member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1, Egba Ayibanemgiyefa, who raised concerns over the impact of the erosion on residents.
Other lawmakers also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation and called for proactive measures to prevent further damage to the community.
The Assembly Speaker, Abraham Ingobere, stressed the need for the government to deploy modern technology in tackling erosion in Ogbogoro and other affected communities across the state.
The lawmakers said the situation required urgent attention to prevent further displacement and damage to property.
The Assembly’s intervention came shortly after reports highlighted the devastating impact of the erosion on residents of Ogbogoro, where affected communities have continued to seek a lasting solution.
The lawmakers’ call now puts pressure on the state government to translate the intervention into concrete measures to address the erosion and protect residents from further displacement.
