The Federal Government has released eight months’ Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic workers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The payment covers the period from January to August 2026, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced on Wednesday.

The development comes days after the government commenced payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff, extending the welfare payments to both categories of personnel in the federal tertiary education system.

Alausa said the release reflected President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and industrial harmony in the education sector.

He said the government recognised the contribution of non-academic personnel to the effective functioning of tertiary institutions and the development of Nigeria’s human capital.

According to the minister, the payment is also aimed at addressing legitimate welfare concerns and reducing disruptions to academic activities.

Alausa said the Federal Ministry of Education would continue discussions with relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and promote stability in the sector.

He commended academic and non-academic staff, institutional heads, unions and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation with the government.

The minister said the administration would sustain policies aimed at improving staff welfare, strengthening tertiary institutions and enhancing learning outcomes.

He assured workers and other stakeholders that the government remained committed to meeting its obligations and implementing reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s education system.
