An aide to Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Mr Femi Fadairo, says the late Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, lived a fulfilled life without being consumed by personal gain.
Fadairo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, said the late elder statesman’s contentment, humility and approach to life offered important lessons for Nigerian politicians.
He said this on Thursday while speaking with newsmen after paying tribute at Fasoranti’s residence in Ijapo, Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fasoranti died on Tuesday in his residence at the age of 100.
According to him, Fasoranti’s life demonstrated the importance of appreciating one’s blessings rather than being driven by an unending desire for personal advancement.
“Politicians and other public office holders should reflect on the values which guided baba’s life and apply this in their public and private conduct.
“Baba Fasoranti, as a political figure in Nigeria, had the spirit of contentment. All politicians should emulate his spirit of contentment.
“While he was alive, he was very contented with what God had deposited for him, so everyone should emulate that,” Fadairo said.
He described Fasoranti as a father figure, mentor and political leader whose influence extended beyond Akure to the entire state and Nigeria.
“Akure has lost a rare gem, a mentor, a father and a leader. Today, we are here to commiserate with the entire Akure Kingdom, the family, the state and the nation,” he said.
The special adviser also described the death of the centenarian as a significant loss to the community and the country, given his standing as an elder statesman and the values he represented.
He urged the bereaved family to draw comfort from the deceased’s long life and enduring legacy, expressing hope that they would find the strength to overcome the loss.
