A dismissed police corporal and a bus driver have been arrested in Benue State over alleged theft and the purchase of stolen goods.
The suspects, identified as Abraham and Abubakar Jamilu, were paraded on Friday at the headquarters of the Benue State Protection Guard in Makurdi by the state government’s security team.
Abraham was accused of stealing valuable items from a hotel and allegedly taking a laptop and other accessories from another victim. He was reportedly arrested around the Tito Gate area while attempting to sell the items.
Jamilu, a bus driver, was arrested for allegedly buying stolen property.
The Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Security and Internal Matters, Dr Joseph Har, said a vigilante played a key role in the arrests after raising the alarm over the suspected stolen items.
Har said the suspects had confessed during investigations and would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The security adviser’s office did not provide further details about the alleged hotel robbery or the value of the items recovered.
Abraham, who was dismissed from the police over a similar theft case, appealed for forgiveness and prayers while speaking to reporters. He promised to stop stealing but said he did not know how he had ended up in the situation.
The authorities have yet to disclose when the suspects will be arraigned.
