Delta state police commissioner, Muhammad Mustafa has given various security organizations and the people of Delta state a twenty-one-day ultimatum, for those bearing arms illegally to either surrender them or face the consequence.

He gave the ultimatum at the police headquarters in Asaba, the state capital while reading out a statement by the command to correspondents on measures to achieve the Inspector General of police order to mop up arms in the country.

Speaking on the ultimatum which took effect on the first of March, the Delta police commissioner said the ultimatum is for the general public and groups bearing arms illegally.

On the allegation of extortion by policemen in the state, the CP calls for a proper investigation by journalists in dealing with erring policemen.

Meanwhile, the state police command had last week paraded various suspects as thousands of ammunition and arms were recovered.

It will be recalled that the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris had read the riot act to illegal arms owners, saying failure to surrender them will face the full wrath of the law.
