The Foundation for Justice, Development and Peace has distributed hygiene kits and other essential supplies to children affected by conflict in five Catholic secondary schools in Makurdi Diocese, Benue State.
The intervention, implemented under the Education in Emergency Scholarship Programme, is aimed at meeting the educational and personal hygiene needs of children whose lives have been disrupted by conflict.
The foundation, the humanitarian arm of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, said the distribution was part of ongoing efforts to support vulnerable pupils and promote their well-being.
The Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe, represented by the Vicar for Administration, Rev. Fr Oliver Ortese, described the programme as a vital lifeline for children affected by conflict.
Anagbe stressed that access to education was essential to restoring hope and preventing future social crises, particularly among children whose schooling had been disrupted by insecurity.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the bishop, Aid to the Church in Need, the Van Thuan Foundation and FJDP for supporting their education and providing essential items.
The programme seeks to help conflict-affected children remain in school and pursue their academic goals despite the challenges arising from displacement and insecurity.
