With the earlier truck incident at Iganmu, recovery operations have been fully concluded. The Agency deployed its low bed and a private crane to ensure safe and professional evacuation. The Mack truck carrying a forty-foot container was managed and driven out, while the truck with double twenty-foot containers was towed after a crane safely offloaded the containers. Both loaded containers have been reloaded onto the Agency’s low bed for evacuation. The corridor is now completely free for public use and normal traffic has been restored. The Cobra Team has returned to base with no casualties recorded.
In the second operation at Ojodu Berger, the Tiger Team from C3 responded to a fire outbreak at 3Pots by 217 Lounge situated at 71 Obokun Avenue by Baale Street, Ojodu Berger. Upon arrival, the team observed that the top floor of the two-storey building housing the lounge was engulfed in fire.
Through the swift and coordinated intervention of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by the Agency’s Response Team, the Nigeria Police Force and the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, the fire has now been successfully and completely extinguished. Preliminary findings revealed that an electrical surge from one of the air conditioning units on the top floor caused the fire. While the fire completely ravaged properties on the top floor, the timely response of emergency responders ensured that it was contained and prevented from spreading to the remaining floors and neighbouring buildings, which were largely salvaged. Dampening down operations have been successfully completed to extinguish all residual hotspots and forestall any possibility of re-ignition.
Recovery operations at the scene have been concluded, and the Agency’s response team is heading back to base.
The Lagos State Government, through LASEMA, appreciates the synergy and professionalism displayed by all responders. Residents and business owners are again advised to ensure regular maintenance of electrical appliances and installations, avoid overloading circuits and engage only certified professionals for electrical works.
Members of the public are enjoined to continue to promptly report all emergencies through the Agency’s toll-free lines.
