The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of severing a 24-year-old man’s wrist during a political altercation in the Bauchi metropolis.

The police said they had arrested another suspect in connection with the incident, which occurred at about 11.30 am on Wednesday in Isiyaka Jibrin Quarters, Bakin Kura area of the state capital.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the dispute involved two residents identified as Lawi and Usman.

During the altercation, a man identified as Mamman Gore, said to be an associate of Lawi, allegedly arrived with a machete and cut off the wrist of the victim, Usman Idris.

The victim reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness following the attack.

He was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he received medical attention and remained admitted, responding to treatment, as of Wednesday.

The police said operatives of the A Division Township had arrested Lawi, who was assisting with the investigation.

However, Gore, the alleged attacker, fled the scene and remained at large.

“The Command has intensified efforts to track, arrest and bring the fleeing suspect to justice,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned political violence and thuggery, warning that the command would not tolerate acts capable of threatening public peace and safety.

The police urged residents to shun violence and allow the investigation to proceed.
