The Commissioner of Police in Delta, Mr. Samuel Erale, says his men will not tolerate electoral malpractice in the 2027 general elections in the state.
Erale made the pledge on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Orodje of Okpe, Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd) in Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner expressed concerns over incidents of drug abuse and cult-related activities in the society.
He, therefore, solicited the support of the royal father in protecting communities from destructive tendencies.
Erale emphasised that sexual offences must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law rather than informal settling.
“Ahead of the ember months and forthcoming elections, I assure the state of adequate security, political neutrality and zero tolerance for electoral malpractice,” he said.
Responding, the Orodje of Okpe expressed delight at the commissioner’s posting to Delta.
The Orodje of Okpe, who also serves as Chairman of the Delta Council of Traditional Rulers, pledged to support the commissioner.
He also promised to encourage other traditional rulers in the state to collaborate with the police in tackling crime.
“Okpe people are peace-loving people. I am happy that you are posted to Delta.
“I will give you the necessary support and also encourage other traditional rulers to collaborate with the police in curbing crime in the state,” the royal father said.
