Twenty prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps abducted while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their orientation camp in the South-East have been released.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, confirmed their release in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, confirmed the development during a telephone conversation with the Olubadan at about 5pm on Wednesday.
The statement was titled, “NYSC: The prospective members of the youth service corps, who were abducted have been released.”
It said Uzodimma personally conveyed the news of the release to the Olubadan.
The prospective corps members were reportedly abducted while travelling to their NYSC orientation camp in the South-East, raising concerns among their families and prompting calls for intensified efforts to secure their safe return.
The circumstances surrounding their release were not immediately disclosed, while the identities of the victims and whether any ransom was paid remained unclear.
The development is expected to bring relief to the families and communities of the prospective corps members, who had been awaiting news of their whereabouts.
