Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, has responded to the social media criticism of his wife’s nose ring and his own earring.
In a post on social media, he said, “If you didn’t die for me, you can’t condemn me,” amid conversations surrounding his new marriage and the couple’s appearance.
Odukoya introduced his new wife, Pastor Mo Odukoya, to members of his congregation during Sunday service on November 1, days after sharing a photograph of two hands wearing rings with the caption, “To New Beginnings.”
The announcement attracted congratulatory messages from some followers, while others questioned the marriage and drew attention to the couple’s accessories.
Pastor's Wife’s nose ring sparks criticism
Among those who criticised the couple was Delta State media aide Ossai Ovie, who expressed disappointment that Odukoya wore an earring and his wife wore a nose ring.
Ovie questioned the message the couple’s appearance could send to the Christian community, describing the accessories as inappropriate for a pastor and his wife.
The comments sparked further discussion online, particularly about the nose ring Odukoya’s wife wore, with some social media users expressing disapproval of the couple’s appearance.
Others, however, defended the couple and questioned why their personal choices should be subject to public criticism.
The debate has also extended beyond their accessories, with some users questioning Odukoya’s remarriage and his previous relationship.
Odukoya introduces new wife to congregation
During the Sunday service, Odukoya explained that he had been navigating life alone since becoming senior pastor following the death of his father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, in 2023.
He then introduced his wife to the congregation, referring to the biblical account of Adam finding a suitable partner.
Odukoya was previously married to Oluwakemi Banjoko, popularly known as Kemi Odukoya. The couple married in London in 2013 and have two children together.
The former couple has not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding the end of their marriage.
Odukoya's new marriage has since sparked conversations about remarriage among Christians, particularly about expectations for pastors and their families.
