Kadiri Eseose Silva and her team are preparing for a 26-hour cheerleading marathon in Benin City, Edo State, in an attempt to secure recognition from Guinness World Records.

The initiative, tagged Longest Cheerleading Marathon: 26 Hours Sports Activities , is being promoted in collaboration with Fashion Junkie Pre-Event and The City’s Inter-House Sport.

The planned marathon is expected to test the participants’ endurance, coordination and teamwork as they sustain cheerleading performances and sports activities over an extended period.

Beyond the record attempt, the organisers hope to draw greater attention to cheerleading as a sporting activity and encourage more young Nigerians to explore sports beyond conventional disciplines.

Cheerleading combines coordinated movement, dance, acrobatic elements and rhythmic routines. Maintaining precision and synchronisation over several hours requires physical conditioning, stamina, concentration and close cooperation among team members.

For Silva and her team, the proposed 26-hour challenge presents an opportunity to showcase these demands while promoting youth participation in recreational sports.

The initiative also comes amid growing interest in Guinness World Records attempts by Nigerians across different fields, including fashion, food, entertainment and endurance challenges.

However, completing the proposed marathon would not automatically guarantee an official world record. Guinness World Records must assess the attempt against the applicable rules and evidence requirements before recognising any achievement.

The organisers will therefore need to demonstrate that the challenge meets the relevant criteria and provide the documentation required for verification.

For Benin City, the proposed event could also bring attention to youth-led sporting and creative initiatives in Edo State, while offering participants an opportunity to showcase their abilities on a wider platform.

As preparations continue, Silva and her team are working towards turning their ambition into a demanding sporting challenge that highlights endurance, discipline and collective effort.
