Jakarta Fashion Week 2027 has opened in Indonesia with a focus on fresh ideas, cultural exchange and the next generation of fashion talent.
The 18th edition of the fashion event officially opened on Monday, October 26, at City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, Jakarta, Indonesia, and will run until November 1.
This year’s edition, themed “City of New Lights,” brings together 111 designers and fashion labels from Indonesia and other parts of the region.
According to the organisers, the theme reflects a desire to create room for new perspectives, emerging talent and collaborations that can take Indonesian fashion to a wider international audience.
Chairman of Jakarta Fashion Week and CEO of GCMedia Group, Svida Alisjahbana, said the event was founded 18 years ago on the belief that Jakarta could have a place in the global fashion conversation.
She said the organisers now hope to position Jakarta as a fashion hub for Southeast Asia while creating a bridge between Asia, Australia and the wider fashion industry.
Beyond the runway, the week is also designed to connect designers with the wider fashion business through programmes focused on emerging talent, commercial opportunities and industry recognition.
These include the Lomba Perancang Mode and Lomba Perancang Mode Menswear competitions, Fashion Force Awards, Dewi Fashion Knights, Fashionlink and Dewi Luxe Market.
The event also continues Jakarta Fashion Week’s focus on cultural heritage and contemporary interpretations of traditional craft.
This year's programme includes collaborations involving designers from across Southeast Asia, with traditional textiles and craftsmanship being explored alongside contemporary fashion.
The international line-up includes creatives from countries such as Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea and Australia, further expanding the event's regional reach.
The opening day featured shows including FashionLink Pretty Free, which brought together KALLArona, SAUL, Tokodidiyo x MKS’ and VAIA, as well as the JFW 2027 signature show, “City of New Lights.”
With shows and presentations continuing throughout the week, Jakarta Fashion Week 2027 is using its runway not only to showcase new collections but also to highlight the growing connections between Indonesian fashion, Southeast Asian creativity and the global industry.
