FG Spills New Awakening On Infrastructure, Threatens TO Sack Non-Performing Contractors

The Federal Government may be spilling new awakening on infrastructure development in the country. The government, accordingly, threatened it will terminate projects awarded to underperforming local and foreign contractors who are not committed to delivery.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, inspecting the Maraba-Keffi Road project, stated that some contractors have up to 25 jobs awarded to them before President Bola Tinubu’s administration came on board.

The minister also inspected the Maraba-Keffi and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, cautioning that any contractors that is not willing to invest while waiting for federal government payments is not committed to the country’s progress.

The Minister stated that the government will no longer tolerate underperformance from contractors that have benefited from Nigerian contracts for decades.

He warned that Non-performing contractors who delay project execution while waiting for payments will soon be weeded out.

The minister also warned ministry officials and contractors against flouting his directives, stating that officials would be held strictly accountable for any non-compliance.

Allwell Onyesoh, Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, commended President Bola Tinubu for his investments in infrastructure, assuring the National Assembly commitment to support the ongoing infrastructural projects across the country.
