US actor Selma Blair has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault following an alleged altercation involving a police officer and a nurse after a flight from Los Angeles to New York.
Court documents show that Blair, 54, was charged on Monday and released on bail. Her next court hearing is scheduled for January 19.
The Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star was detained at John F Kennedy International Airport late on Sunday after her Delta Air Lines flight landed amid reports of an unruly passenger.
US media reports alleged that Blair punched a flight attendant and bit another during the flight. She was also accused of assaulting a police officer and a nurse while being taken to hospital.
The FBI has separately issued a summons concerning alleged assaults aboard the aircraft, according to a federal judicial source.
Blair’s representative said the actor had experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.
“Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” the representative said.
Delta Air Lines said it had “zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour”, adding that the safety of passengers and crew remained its priority.
The case follows an earlier incident in 2016, when Blair was removed from a plane on a stretcher after an outburst during a flight.
She later told Vanity Fair that she had mixed alcohol with medication, causing her to black out and say and do things she deeply regretted.
In her 2022 memoir, Blair also recounted incidents in which she had bitten several celebrities, including Kate Moss, often in situations involving alcohol.
The latest allegations remain before the court.
