Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about how she would handle attraction to someone else while already in a serious relationship.
The “Rush” singer shared her perspective while responding to a woman seeking relationship advice on her “Ask Ayra Starr” show.
Addressing a scenario in which someone in a serious relationship develops feelings for another person they find more attractive, Ayra said she would end her existing relationship rather than date both people.
According to the singer, remaining romantically involved with two people at the same time would not be the right approach.
She also suggested that someone in that situation should take time away from relationships to understand their feelings before moving on.
“I don’t think you can love two people,” she said, adding that the person should give themselves time to figure out what they want.
Ayra’s comments come months after she offered a different perspective on physical attraction, saying looks are not particularly important to her when choosing a partner.
During a live Twitch session with Nigerian content creator Jarvis in April, the singer said she was more interested in qualities beyond appearance, noting that someone could be physically attractive without having “sense.”
She has also previously spoken about wanting a meaningful romantic relationship, including revealing that a private relationship inspired her song “Where Do We Go.”
Beyond attraction and commitment, Ayra also advised people not to abandon their friendships once they enter relationships.
She said partners should not isolate one another from their friends and that there should be a healthy balance between romantic relationships and friendships.
Her latest comments have sparked conversations online about attraction, commitment and whether finding someone more physically appealing is enough reason to reconsider an existing relationship.
