Singer and Grammy winner Rihanna called out Americans who failed to cast their vote in the 2024 presidential election, in a declaration that they contributed to Donald Trump being re-elected.
The singer's remarks came in a post on Instagram following a video that went viral of former MSNBC anchor Joy Reid.
The video shows Joy Reid as she debates with journalist Charles Blow. Joy Reid said the Americans who elected Trump to be president should bear the brunt of the economic issues during his administration, including reports that he made billions while in office.
Rihanna response to the video was, “Whether you believe it or not, the people that didn't vote at all, did this too!".
Donald Trump defeated Democratic challenger Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. He returned to power after losing his bid for a second term in 2020 against Joe Biden.
Rihanna herself did not cast a ballot in the election. Even though she resides in the United States, she is not an American citizen. She is from Barbados and has no right to vote in the United States.
But she has also prompted her fans in America to vote through the years.
This new comment of hers has opened up the discussion of voter apathy and how abstaining from voting can also determine the winner of an election.
