Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has cancelled the release of her film, Egusi Ogbono, following the death of her colleague, Chijioke ‘Cjay’ Nwokafor.

The actress announced the decision on Instagram on Wednesday, expressing shock over the actor’s death, which was confirmed by a hospital hours after they spoke.

Blessing said she spoke with Nwokafor at about 8am on Wednesday but received news of his death a few hours later. The film, in which the late actor featured, had been scheduled for release at 5pm that day.

In an emotional post, she wrote, “Cjay Nwoke Oma, so this is really the end? Omo we had plans. I spoke to you at 8 a.m. today and a few hours later you are no more with us.

“Omo please return if possible because I refuse to type otherwise and this is too much for me to handle.”

The actress did not disclose the cause of his death.

Other Nollywood colleagues also expressed shock and grief over the development.

Actor Charles Born said he had planned to visit Nwokafor at the hospital before learning of his death.

“Wait what? I was supposed to go see him at the clinic. Is this a joke?” he wrote.

Another actor, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, said he found it difficult to believe that Nwokafor had died, noting that they had exchanged messages only a few days earlier.

“Can’t believe CJ is dead mehn. We just texted a few days back! WTF is going on,” he wrote, describing the late actor as “such a sweet soul”.

As of press time, Nwokafor’s family and colleagues had not disclosed further details about his death or announced funeral arrangements.

The Anambra State indigene began his acting career in 2021 and featured in several Nollywood productions, including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight and A Day to My Wedding.
