Media personality Do2dtun has challenged Headies founder Ayo Animashaun to identify the person he accused of seeking help to secure a US visa, following a heated exchange over the music awards.

The dispute erupted after Animashaun criticised people who condemn The Headies for holding ceremonies abroad but allegedly approach him privately for assistance with visa applications.

In a post on X, Animashaun questioned whether the criticism was genuinely about the awards or driven by personal interests.

“U criticise D Headies 4 goin abroad, yet slide into my DM asking me 2 help U attend Bcuz U want a visa,” he wrote, adding that the person became more critical after he could not help.

Responding, Do2dtun demanded that Animashaun name the individual and explain the circumstances behind the alleged request.

“Mention the person that slid into your dm to ask for visa. Your reply is beyond little and lacks comprehension. Tell the real story,” he wrote.

Do2dtun argued that the debate concerned the wider Nigerian music industry rather than Animashaun personally. He also questioned the benefits industry stakeholders had received from attending and supporting previous editions of The Headies held in Nigeria.

The broadcaster, who said he had attended the awards several times and presented awards on two occasions, insisted that his criticism was about the industry’s culture, not a personal dispute.

He further denied that his alleged request was motivated by a desire to obtain a US visa, saying he had travelled to the country before and that his daughters were born there.

“Until you come out clean, I won’t leave your neck,” Do2dtun added, insisting that Animashaun clarify the matter.

The exchange comes amid renewed debate over The Headies’ decision to stage its awards ceremony outside Nigeria. The 18th edition, initially scheduled for October 2026 in Toronto, has been postponed to April 10 and 11, 2027.

Animashaun has defended the international expansion, arguing that it offers Nigerian artistes greater global exposure and opportunities to connect with international industry players.
