Spotify has begun rolling out audiobooks to listeners in Nigeria, giving users another way to access books through the streaming platform.
Announced on October 14, the launch is part of Spotify’s plan to expand its audiobook service from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of 2026. The expansion is expected to make audiobooks available to more than 750 million people worldwide.
In Nigeria, both Free and Premium subscribers can access audiobooks through Audiobooks+, a monthly add-on priced at ₦2,300. The package includes 15 hours of audiobook listening per billing cycle, with only time spent actively listening deducted from the allowance.
Listeners who need more time can purchase an additional 10 hours for ₦2,700 or buy individual audiobook titles to keep.
According to Spotify’s Vice President of Audiobooks, Owen Smith, the expansion is intended to help more people discover audiobooks while giving authors and publishers access to new audiences.
Spotify is introducing several features designed to make audiobooks easier to access and enjoy.
Page Match allows listeners to move between a physical book or ebook and its audiobook version. Users can scan a book’s ISBN barcode and use page numbers to find their place in the audio version. Spotify says more than one million readers have used the feature, which supports over 30 languages.
The platform is also adding a dedicated Audiobooks section where users can browse titles and receive recommendations based on their interests across music, podcasts and books.
Other features include progress syncing across supported devices, a sleep timer for night-time listening and offline downloads for listening without an internet connection.
The launch gives Nigerian listeners another option for fitting books into their daily routines, whether during commutes, walks or quiet moments at home.
With audiobooks now joining music and podcasts on Spotify’s Nigerian platform, listeners can explore spoken-word content without needing a separate audiobook app.
The expansion also opens another potential audience for authors and publishers looking to reach listeners through digital platforms.
